The overweight and over paid 2009 first round pick, Andre Smith, finally made it on to the field for the Bengals in last nights game against Philadelphia.
Smith was coming off foot surgery in the off-season and didn't even practice until earlier this week. Marvin Lewis voiced his annoyance at the lack of effort by the overweight waste of a first round pick.
Smith doesn't have too many fans in Cincinnati because he hasn't proven anything yet. Even in his first start he looked lost and confused costing the Bengals 15 yards on a false start and holding penalty.
The 6'4, 340 pound offensive tackle didn't feel good about his own performance saying "It didn't go as well as I would have liked," Smith told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I have a long way to go but I'm just happy to be out there with my teammates, against another opponent."
He also said his foot felt fine and that he needed to continue conditioning, which thats a no brainer. We don't need an out of shape and slow tackle protecting Palmer's blindside.
Marvin Lewis had nothing to say about his performance saying he was going to look at game film and make his own observations.
I don't know if Smith will work out with the team, but he needs to step it up if he wants to play at all because there are players behind him hungry to make plays. He has gained no respect from his coaches, his teammates, or the fans. The fans I talk to would rather cut him and let him keep his money rather than deal with him.
He has a lot of stuff to do before the season and if he is going to be on this team he needs to be with the team in their efforts giving it his all. If he doesn't do that then Lewis needs to show he won't let his players do whatever they want. He needs to pull a Donald Trump and show him the door.
